A NEW fundraising and awareness Christmas campaign has been launched by the Cancer Research UK charity.

The Right Now campaign is aiming to shine a light on the men, women and children fighting cancer everyday, with the advertising featuring real life stories.

The campaign launches as new figures released show in Worcestershire and the West Midlands region, cancer incidence rates have increased by 13 per cent in the past 10 years, but mortality rates have decreased by seven per cent in the same period.

Every day, around 85 people are diagnosed with cancer in the Worcestershire and the West Midlands region

The stories featured in the campaign include moments of diagnosis, treatment and test results.

Paula Young, Cancer Research UK spokesman for Worcestershire, said: “People hear the words ‘you have cancer’ every day.

"Our campaign aims to highlight the huge emotional and physical impact that those words have on a patient and their loved ones.

"Right now, Cancer Research UK doctors, nurses and scientists are working hard to find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat the disease. But we can’t do it alone. We hope our campaign inspires people to take action, right now, and play their part in helping to beat cancer sooner.”

One in two people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some stage in their lives, but the good news is more people are surviving the disease now than ever before.
