A SPATE of burglaries is blighting the lives of people living in Worcester.

Police say there have been "numerous" burglaries in the Battenhall and Nunnery areas of the city during the past two months.

Now, officers say they need the help of the local community to try and catch the culprits.

Most recently, one burglary and two attempted burglaries happened in Bath Road within the space of 24 hours at the weekend.

A large amount of jewellery was stolen from a home in Bath Road after it is thought an offender broke in through the back garden between 2pm and 3pm on Friday, February 3.

A neighbour spotted a young man wearing a light-coloured hoodie in the area around the time of the burglary.

A nearby Bath Road home was also targeted after a man went into the backyard of the house and tried to prise open a top window.

No damage was caused but the window was left ajar during the attempted burglary, which happened between 11.30am and 12.50pm on Saturday, February 4.

A further break-in was attempted at another Bath Road home on Saturday, February 4, although no entry was gained and nothing reported stolen.

Forensic teams have carried out investigations at the homes.

PC Louise Steele, local policing officer for Battenhall and Nunnery, said: "I don't know yet if they are linked but it is a spate.

"There have been numerous burglaries.

"It has been going on for the last couple of months, generally in the Battenhall area.

"Some of them are similar, but some are sneak-in.

"There are lots of different MOs going on.

"I know there was a spate of burglaries in the Claines and Fernhill Heath area before this and now it has moved to my area."

PC Steele said police have carried out plain-clothes patrols but need those living in the area to help them find the offenders.

She said: "We just need the public to be vigilant and report anything they can, anything suspicious at all."

We previously reported how Arboretum and Claines safer neighbourhood team released details of a string of offences, including four burglaries or attempted burglaries in the same day in November.

One Claines homeowner even caught a would-be burglar on CCTV trying the door while the family slept inside.
