CHILDREN enjoyed diving into deep piles of fresh snow which gathered on ‘sidewalks’, ‘trash cans’ and ‘parking lots’ in Worcester.
However, this isn’t Worcester, UK but rather its namesake in Massachusetts, America, which has been covered by 9.8 inches of snow after Winter Storm Niko hit this week.
Confused Americans have been sending in pictures and videos to Worcester News via Facebook of the fun they have been having in the snow.
But back in the UK, sledges will continue to gather dust in sheds and garages as the city is only expected to see a few short flurries of snow mixed with rain and sleet this weekend.
Nationally, forecasters have predicted a significant drop in temperatures and snow showers hitting the country in the coming days – with some parts expecting to be covered by six inches of snow.
But Dave Throup, from the Environment Agency, said Worcestershire should not suffer too badly.
“We have had higher river levels than usual recently,” Mr Throup said.
“But although it is going colder, we are only expecting some smaller snow flurries in Worcestershire – not likely to cause significant flooding.
“It is actually an improving situation.”
The Met Office is predicting a cold snap for the county with highs of just 4C in Worcester with lows of 0C overnight.
Temperatures will reach 11C by Wednesday according to the Met Office forecast and is set to remain cloudy all week.
