MOTORING enthusiasts dusted off their old cars for their first meeting of the year.

Attendees at the breakfast club meeting at Shelsley Walsh Climb, near Worcester included UKIP politician Ernie Warrender in an open-topped 1926 Bentley Super Sports.

Mr Warrender, UKIP spokesman for Small Business said: "This is a very special Green Label car which was one of the first to reach 100 miles per hour and I have even used it as an election battle bus.

“I am thrilled to bring it to make my first visit to Shelsley Walsh, no matter what the weather throws at us, as I have heard so much about these wonderful events.”

Another person making a debut was Anouzka Lowrie-Herz, from Shrewsbury, who is the new events co-ordinator for the Midland Automobile Club (MAC) at Shelsley Walsh.

Car enthusiasts and regular visitors Peter Priest and David Ogden, from Ombersley, arrived in a rare MG SVR, of which only 47 were made.

Mr Priest said: “It is simply fantastic to be able to come here and mix with like minded people, view the amazing variety of machines on display and have a splendid breakfast.”

MAC commercial manager, Mark Constanduros, added: “Despite the weather, it is very pleasing to see so many people, both members and visitors, bringing their cars here this morning.

"There has, once again, been a wonderful selection of some quite unusual machines and we are very grateful to these enthusiasts for making the effort to attend.

“To ensure the continued success of this hugely popular monthly event I would remind people that it is essential that anybody wishing to display their pride and joy in the paddock area must book in advance via the club’s website at www.shelsleywalsh.com.”

The next meeting of the breakfast club talks place from 9am on Sunday March 12 and will coincide with the staging of the club’s annual sporting trial.

The meeting took place on Sunday February 12.
