A FLOOD gate will be closed later today in response to heavy rainfall.
The gate will be closed at New Street in Upton-upon-Severn by 5pm today after long periods of rain in Worcestershire today.
A spokesman for the Environment Agency said that it is unlikely that any other flood gates in the area will be closed today.
An Environment Agency spokesman said: "“We will be closing the flood gate at New Street in Upton-upon-Severn at 5pm today as the River Severn responds to recent rainfall.
"Rising river levels mean that the road will soon become impassable.
"Whilst the gate is closed, vehicles and other road users will need to use alternative routes.
"The gate will remain closed all weekend, and we will reassess the situation on Monday to decide if the gate can be re-opened.
"We will continue to monitor the weather and the situation over the weekend. We have notified people who are likely to be affected by the gate closure.”
