THE FAMILY of a missing man have reported that his body has been recovered from the river Severn.

Stephen Woolley was last seen at his Kidderminster home on Tuesday, December 6.

His car was discovered in Holt Fleet, near Worcester, several days later.

Ever since he went missing, his family have used social media to appeal for people to keep looking for the 55-year-old.

Tonight (Friday) a message appeared on the Find Stephen Woolley Facebook page to say his body had been found in the river near Gloucester.

It reads: "We would like to thank everyone who has shared our posts over the last 12 weeks since Steve went missing, and for the messages of support we have received.

"It is with great sadness that we have to report that Steve's body has been recovered from the River Severn and today we received notification of a positive identification.

"A post mortem will take place on Monday followed by an inquest.

"It is not the outcome we hoped for, but it does give us closure and the chance to grieve for our loss.

"Thank you once again for your support.

"The Woolley family."

The family received an outpouring of support via social media following their message.

Thousands of people left tributes on the family’s facebook page while hundreds more were posted by readers on our online story.

While Debra Kelly wrote: “So sad. I have been sharing daily in the hope he would be found safe. May he rest in peace. My heartfelt thoughts go to all his family. My heart breaks for you.”
