A BRASS band is aiming to take music lovers on a trip around the world in a charity performance on Friday.

Worcester Concert Brass will be performing everything from the theme to Out of Africa to West Side Story in a concert called “Around the World in 90 Minutes.”

The concert will raise funds for Worcester mayor Paul Denham’s charities.

Spokesman Peter Jones said: “This is always a highlight for the band with the mayor being our president.

“We are always proud to represent the city of Worcester.

“The proceeds will go the Midlands Air Ambulance, YHA Breaks for Kids and Action for Children.

“So come along and have an entertaining evening.”

Mr Jones added there would even be a piece about Worcester in the performance.

Musical director Chris License has composed a work called “Faithful City”.

The concert takes place at the Guildhall, at 7.30pm.

Tickets, priced £8,which include a glass of wine or soft drink, are available from the Tourist Information Centre at the Guildhall and on the door.

The 30-strong band has been going for 35 years and Mr Jones said it was always on the lookout for new members.

He said: “We have playing members of all ages from school pupils to pensioners.

“We are able to provide instruments for anyone interested in joining. At the moment we are looking to recruit bass players and a percussionist.”

The band rehearses on a Tuesday evening in the drama studio of Nunnery Wood High School.
