A NEW Conservative group leader has been chosen at Cotswold District Council.

Councillor Mark Annett, who represents Campden and Vale, is in the hotseat.

The move means he is set to be elected the district council's leader on Tuesday, May 16, taking over from Cllr Lynden Stowe who is stepping down after 11 years service.

He was first elected in 2009 and lives in Chipping Camden, working as a chartered surveyor.

Cllr Annett said: "I look forward to working with a fantastic team of Conservatives across the district in the best interests of all residents throughout the Cotswolds.

"I would also like to thank Cllr Lynden Stowe for all his hard work over the last 11 years - his dedication to public service is an example to us all."

He added: "I want to lead a council that will live up to its motto - 'United We Serve' - to serve each and every one of our residents and communities across the Cotswolds.

"We live in a wonderful part of the country, but must remember that everyone living here deserves the very best public services this council can provide."

Cllr Stowe said: "I would like to congratulate Mark.

"Having worked with him very closely for a number of years, I know he has the first class qualities and commitment to continue taking the council forward."
