A CITY park will be filled with colour and creativity when the popular Worcester show returns this August.

The annual event, in its 12th year, will be taking place in Gheluvelt Park on Sunday, August 13.

The event traditionally features floral displays, cooking demonstrations, craft stalls and a selection of food and drink stands selling local produce.

Last year more than 10,000 people attended the event.

The 2017 event is set to feature more than 120 competition classes to enter ranging from growing giant vegetables to displaying flowers and floral decorations, creating handicrafts and photography, baking and modelling.

There are special classes for young people and novice growers including a picture or collage of your favourite season, building a spaceship from recyclable objects and making a sea creature out of fruit or vegetables.

There are also under 18 classes in every section and a new under 18s trophy will be awarded for the most points overall in these classes.

Worcester Cactus Society is offering free membership to everyone who enters the under 18s class in cacti and succulents.

All classes are free to enter and this year, to open up the field to less experienced exhibitors, you can only enter up to two entries per class.

Gerry Leith, chairman of the Worcester Show committee, said: "Now that some warmer, drier weather is here, green-fingered residents are being encouraged to dust off their trowels and start planting to ensure they can harvest their fruit and vegetables in time for this year’s Worcester Show.

“The show celebrates the amazing creativity of local people, and is a really fun day out for the whole family.

"If gardening isn’t your thing, there are many artistic and creative classes on offer too.

"Enthusiasm is the only quality you need to enter.”

Full details of all the classes and how to enter the show are available at worcestershow.org.uk.
