A KIND-HEARTED youngster celebrated her birthday in unusual fashion as she braved a drastic hair cut for charity.

Emma Pickersgill, of Eardiston, Tenbury Wells, has raised more than £100 for charity by having 12 inches cut off her long locks in aid of Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven.

Emma, who celebrated her 12th birthday yesterday, was motivated to raise money for the unit as her nan is currently undergoing radiotherapy following surgery for breast cancer.

She had the chop at Annette Powell Hairdressing in Worcester and her hair has is being donated to the Little Princess Trust.

Emma said: "My hair hasn’t been cut since I was four. I was nervous but at the same time really excited to do something worthwhile for Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven."

Fundraising manager at Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven Lexi Craigie added: "It costs us £200,000 a year to provide all our services for men and women around the county, so every penny from fundraising such as this helps us. Emma is a total star and we wish her a really happy birthday."
