AN animal rescue centre in Worcester is celebrating its first birthday this weekend.

The Holdings Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Broomhall near Worcester opened last year as the first first phase of a planned £1 million development at the site.

The RSPCA Worcester and Mid-Worcestershire branch is holding a party on Sunday (October 15) at the centre - the first in the branch's 105 year history - to celebrate.

Trustee Geraldine Haynes said: “We're all delighted with how the first year has gone.

“We have rehomed 228 cats and kittens since last October and our cattery is still full with those cats most in need from throughout our branch area.

“With everyone's help we are going from strength to strength.

“All that has been achieved has only been possible with the help of our amazing supporters not to mention our wonderful team, our fantastic volunteers, ASDA Worcester for hosting our food collection basket and everyone else who has played a part."

Refreshments will be available at the event which takes place from 12pm to 3pm.

All proceeds will go towards the running costs of the cattery and forthcoming rabbit pods.

Visitors are welcome to take toys and treats for the animals and guided tours of the new rabbit and small animal unit will also be available.

The centre is open every day, except Wednesdays, between 11am and 4pm.

Anyone who is interested in making a donation to the project or who would like to sponsor a cat each month can call Geraldine on 01886 822083.
