A THIEF described himself as a "silly thing" after he stole a sandwich from Sainsbury's Local.
Michael Newman, 46, of Ombersley Road, Worcester says he has no recollection of stealing the £3.50 sandwich in Foregate Street.
Peter Love, prosecuting, said: "He went into the shop picked up a sandwich and walked out.
"He was identified from the CCTV and was interviewed a couple of days later, when he made a full admission.
"He said that he was drunk and could not remember the incident."
Newman said: "I feel such a silly thing, I cannot believe I am here because of a sandwich. I'm sorry."
He admitted theft from a shop and was given a conditional discharge.
He was told to pay a victim surcharge of £20, costs of £135 and £3.50 compensation to Sainsbury's.
The theft happened on Monday September 18.
He appeared in Worcester Magistrates Court on Thursday October 12.
