A MOTHER and daughter writing duo have released their second children’s picture book.

Aimed at kids aged three to seven, Madge Eekal’s Christmas has received positive reviews and has already proven to be a big hit with young readers.

Colleen Cookson, 71, provided the illustrations for the book, while her daughter Zoë, 43, a creative writing teacher at the HOW College in Worcester, whose author name is Zed Jacey, wrote the story.

The book has been reviewed by The Bookbag, who described it as a tale that “evokes Christmas perfectly”, praising it for its “amusing way of encouraging children to think about what they can do rather than worrying about what they can’t.”

Colleen, from Stourport, said: “We’re delighted by the success of our second book.

“I thought I knew what would appeal to children from my years as a primary school teacher but the positive response from kids has been phenomenal.”

Daughter Zoë said: “I’ve had messages from readers as far away as Germany and the USA. I’m thrilled and amazed that my stories have travelled so far.”

Madge Eekal’s Christmas is available to purchase in shops, online and at local retailers.

Zoe also runs a creative writing evening class at the HOW College on Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9pm for those interested in taking a similar path.

The new term starts in January.
