Affordable housing could soon be rising on wasteland in Warndon.

The cleared site of a former specialist nursing home, off Cranham Drive and bounded by Brookthorpe Close, Rodborough Drive and Chalford Drive is the subject of an application for planning permission by Worcester-based association Sanctuary Housing.

The developers want to provide houses ‘for people aspiring to get on to the housing ladder or those who are part of Generation Rent.”

The development, if it gets the go-ahead from Worcester City Council will consist of eight two and three-bed houses for shared ownership between the housing association and the people who will live in them, six shared-ownership flats, six houses and 14 flats to be let at an affordable rent.

The plans submitted show a central spine road running north from Brookthorpe Close to Chalford Drive, roughly parallel to Cranham Drive.

Each house and flat has at least one car parking and one cycle parking space allocated, with two and three spaces for properties with higher numbers of bedrooms.

Sanctuary Housing’s application said: “Each dwelling has been designed to maximise living space and reduce wasted circulation space, provide adequate storage and ensure good levels of natural daylight are enjoyed.

“Some houses have French doors to access rear gardens and all apartments have large sliding windows to a secure external balcony.”

The houses will be faced with bricks and have steeply sloping roofs and one of the blocks of flats, in the south-western corner of the plot will have solar panels on the roof.

The application says that there will be small communal outdoor spaces for use by all residents and that they will be designed to create a unified sense of neighbourhood.

The plans are available to view on Worcester City Council’s website, using reference number P17N0594. Comments should be made before January 11 2018.
