It was criticised as a damp squib of a reshuffle, but Theresa May’s changing of the guard has really affected Worcester MPs.

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has been promoted to Minister of State at the Foreign Office.

The Wyre Forest MP Mark Garnier lost his job as International Trade Minister. And Robin Walker, who represents Worcester keeps his job as a junior Brexit Minister.

Mrs Baldwin walked into Number 10 Downing Street this morning as Parliamentary Under-secretary of State for procurement at the Ministry of Defence, she emerged, after talking to Prime Minister Theresa Mayas Boris Johnson’s number two - Minister of State at The Foreign and Commonwealth office for International Development.

That’s a promotion in terms of the job, and probably, in the prestige of the department she will help lead.

Mrs Baldwin said: “I’m obviously delighted to be promoted into the new role working as a Minister of State across the Foreign Office and the Department for International Development. I look forward to working on behalf of Global Britain, using our soft power to further peace and security at home and abroad. “

And the appointment pleased her colleague Robin Walker.

He said: “That’s a very exciting move- to a very significant role.”

He added that he was happy to be staying on as parliamentary Under-secretary at the Department for Exiting the EU: “I’m delighted to be confirmed in the role as we get on with the incredibly important national challenge of securing our Exit from the EU.

I’m proud to work with excellent people as we seek to secure the strongest possible trade deal. I’m looking forward to getting on with the job.”

Mr Walker expressed his sympathy for county colleague Mark Garnier who lost his job as a minister at International Trade.

Mr Garnier was sacked by Theresa May two weeks after he was cleared of breaching the ministerial code following sex toy revelations that came to light in October.

He tweeted: “Very sad to have lost my job at @tradegovuk but looking forward to supporting @theresa_may Government from the backbenches.”
