A POWICK preschool has been criticised by Ofsted for failing to provide documentation on its committee members.

Powick Preschool, which operates at Powick Parish Hall, in Malvern Road, was judged as requiring improvement in its latest Ofsted report.

Although the preschool was judged 'good' for its quality of teaching, learning and assessment, personal development, behaviour and welfare and outcomes for children - due to the missing documentation, it was found as ‘requiring improvement’ for effectiveness of the leadership and management, lowering its overall grade.

Inspector Amanda Tompkin, visited the venue which has 28 children on a roll, on Friday, November 17 last year.

In the report, Ms Tompkin said: "The provider has not obtained suitable person checks for all members of the committee."

But, the report praised the preschool for its teaching and the good relationship between the parents and the staff.

The inspector said: "Generally, staff teach children well. They understand how children learn and develop and provide some generally exciting opportunities. Parents are extremely supportive of the pre-school. They complement the efforts made by the staff.

"Children are happy and confident in their surroundings. They make good friendships with other children and develop good bonds with staff. Children learn to share and cooperate with each other. Staff are good role models and this helps the children to learn the rules of good behaviour."

The report said to improve the preschool staff need to strengthen partnership working with all other settings attended by the children.

She also noted that all children, including those who speak English as an additional language, were making good progress in their development.

The inspection included observation of activities both indoor and outdoor, a joint observation with the manager of the pre-school and a meeting with the manager.

She also examined documentation and spoke to children, parents and carers.

Setting supervisor Anna Morris said: "It was a really unfortunate oversight. We were pleased to get good ratings in every other area and that the children are learning and developing well. "

The preschool was inspected on Friday, and by the Monday, Ms Morris said Ofsted had received the required documentation.

A reinspection can be carried in a minimum of six months. She added: "We are ready for them to come as soon as possible."
