FLOOD warnings were issued across the county as rivers burst their banks.

The River Avon flooded at Strensham, Bredon and Wyre Piddle, near Worcester, causing road closures .

Eckington Bridge, the B4080 and Jubilee Bridge, in Fladbury, were closed due to flooding.

The water level in Evesham reached 2.54 metres this morning.

A flood alert was also issued for the River Severn, which reached 3.43 metres in Worcester.

Dave Throup, Environment Agency manager for Herefordshire and Worcestershire, said: "[There' is] low level normal winter flooding, mainly on the lower River Avon and River Severn downstream of Worcester."

Mr Throup said river levels were due to drop by Wednesday but noted that more rain is forecast for Thursday.

He added that the situation is similar to last Christmas.

The floodgate in New Street, Upton, was also closed.
