FANS of comics, novels and popular television shows are set to be in their element when a comic-con event makes a welcome return to Worcester this April.

Last year comic lovers were left disappointed after the planned Comic Con in Worcester was cancelled.

From the ashes of that event, a new one has emerged from one of the previous organisers, Lee Wallis.

Mr Wallis did not want to comment on the previous year's cancellation, but said the new one was shaping up to be an excellent event.

The event is being held at Worcester Arena, in Hylton Road, between 10am and 5pm on Sunday, April 8.

Mr Wallis said the comic con is being organised through the Em-Con group, which holds events across the country.

"We are expecting 2,000 people to this one," Mr Wallis said.

"This year will be bigger and better than before.

"The line up is going to be great, there are loads of guests. Our star name is John Rhys-Davies, from Lord of the Rings."

Also announced for the event are Norman Lovett, Robert Llewellyn and Chloe Annett from Red Drawf, Colin Baker and Katy Manning from Doctor Who, Rupert Young from Merlin, Jeremy Bulloch - who played Boba Fett in the original Star Wars trilogy, and Colin Nemec from Stargate SG-1.

John Challis, who famously played Boycie in Only Fools and Horses, will also be attending.

Tickets have gone on sale, starting from £7 adults, and £3 for children, and are available from the event website, worcester.em-con.co.uk.
