A HUGE scaffolding structure has sprung up on the floodplain of the Severn near to the Carrington Bridge.

Worker have been erecting the structure on agricultural land just north of Temeside way, the A4440, between the Powick and Ketch roundabouts. The scaffolding is going up just west of the river.

One motorist said: “You can see traffic slowing down so people can try and look at it. They’re obviously really interested.”

Worcestershire County Council confirmed it is the very early stages of the next phase of improvements to the A4440, with work in earnest due to start next year.

Temeside Way will be turned into a dual carriageway to eliminate a traffic bottleneck on the ring-road and a new two-lane bridge will be built to carry traffic across the Severn next to the existing bridge.

At least that eliminates the other, possibly less than serious suggestion; that with the scaffolding somewhat resembling a grandstand; perhaps Worcester City’s ground search was at an end.
