INSPECTORS have praised a city school, judging that it continues to be good.

Ofsted inspectors visited Perdiswell Primary School at the start of June, and their report has now been published.

The Bilford Road-based school was given a good rating in June 2014, and inspector Sandra Hayes writes in the latest report that "this school continues to be good".

In her report she writes: "The leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in the school since the last inspection.

"This has been a challenge because the standard of education slipped dramatically between June 2014 and September 2016.

"The decline has been halted. The quality of teaching has improved notably. Standards are recovering quickly.

"Governors are not afraid to challenge - nor do they hesitate in taking decisive action, if needed, to maintain the rapid rate of improvement.

"After their underachievement in recent years, most pupils are now working at least in line with the expected standards for their ages. Many of the most able pupils are working at appropriately high standards. This is a notable improvement."

Among the areas particularly highlighted were the "effective approach" to implementing the new mathematics curriculum, that teachers have successfully improved the quality of their teaching in reading and mathematics, and that the strong and effective leadership team now understands precisely the school’s strengths.

To improve the school further inspectors suggest the planned actions to improve the quality of pupils’ writing, matches the success of work in reading and mathematics.

The Worcester News contacted the school, but no was available to comment on the report.
