WORCESTER'S MP Robin Walker has confirmed he is looking into the alleged kidnap and torture of a city man who was visiting Pakistan.

Zaheer Iqbal, aged 37, says he was kidnapped and then taken to an unknown location where he was beaten up and accused of murder, drug trafficking and murder last Thursday after visiting a Bazaar near Kashmir.

A spokesman from Robin Walker’s office said the MP was keeping in touch with the family and had raised the attack with the foreign office on Monday.

The family says it is now working with the British Embassy in Pakistan.

His brother Muhammad Iqbal, who lives in Worcester, said the attack is now under police investigation.

He said: "We believe it was senior judicial people that organised the pick-up. We want to know what the connection was.

“It is some kind of paid job. They’ve (the police) been given 10 days to give feedback to us. 10 days to give an explanation as to why it happened, what the connection was, who has been paid, who gave the order. That’s what we want to know. We are quite puzzled.

“He has been tortured. It was a holiday – we doesn’t know why it happened really. It is very shocking that it can happen to anyone. It is not going to make people feel safer when travelling abroad.

Mayor of Worcester Jabbar Riaz, has been in contact with the family, said: “I have advised them to come back here so we can sort it out from here.
