A GIN festival which was set to take place in the city later this month has been cancelled after the organisers went into administration.

And there is bad news for those who have already purchased a ticket, as administrators have said there will no refunds for tickets already bought for the Worcester Racecourse event.

Earlier this year the Worcester News reported on the two-day festival which was set to take place on July 20-21 and feature three tasting sessions. Organisers revealed the Pitchcroft site would be separated into different zones featuring bars, a brand room, and a creative cocktail bar.

In their promotional material, organisers said: "Guests are gifted their very own copa glass on arrival, with a funky pocket-sized brochure to guide them through their Gin Festival journey. From small craft distilleries using locally foraged botanicals, right through to exotic examples of contemporary gins in fantastic flavours, there's something for every palate".

But administrators from Begbies Traynor have announced that GinFestival.com, the Yorkshire firm behind the festival, is now in administration after a buyer for the group was not found.

GinFestival.com, which was established in 2013, encountered financial difficulties after it invested heavily in expanding its online presence and its entire programme of 20 festivals taking place in the coming months has been cancelled, with all 27 members of staff made redundant.

The advice to those who bought a ticket, which organisers say cost from £12, is to check with their credit or debit card provider as to whether they are covered for the loss under the Chargeback system.

Julian Pitts of Begbies Traynor said: “It’s a huge shame that Gin Festival.com has been placed in administration. The loss of jobs is always extremely disappointing and in this case approximately 20,000 tickets have also been sold for forthcoming events which will not be reimbursed as part of the administration process.

“Anyone who has purchased tickets for any of the events organised by GinFestival.com would be best advised to check with their credit or debit card provider.

“Our aim was, of course, to find a purchaser for the business as a going concern in order to safeguard the jobs, but unfortunately, despite our efforts, this did not prove possible.

“We are now in the process of realising what assets we can in order to achieve the best possible returns for creditors.”
