A SUPPORT worker who helps people with learning disabilities was given an award from her company.

Dimensions is one of the largest not-for-profit support providers to people with learning disabilities and autism in England and Wales.

Dimensions recerntly held its annual Employee Recognition Awards at the West Midlands Safari Park, to celebrate all the excellent and inspiring work that staff do on a day to day basis.

The awards are voted for by the staff and the people they support in their region, and the winner for the Worcester area was Sara Howard, who has worked with a client named Alex for over 20 years.

Recently, Sara supported Alex in tracking down his friends from the past.

She helped him get in contact with some of his old friends and Alex then metwith them and now regularly sees them in Birmingham.

Also, Sara helped Alex maintain contact with family and eventually spoke with them on the phone and via email.

Since then Claire, Alex’s niece and her sister Heather, have travelled from Australia to visit him, and he has been overwhelmed as he thought he did not have any family left.

Sara’s manager, Melody Ventham said: "If it wasn’t for Sara, Alex would never had known about his family members and I feel this is just amazing.

Melody added: "Sara has worked for Dimensions for a long time, she is a brilliant support worker and will go the extra mile for anyone she supports."
