CRICKET volunteers were celebrated in Worcester.

The Natwest Outstanding Service to Cricket Awards (OSCAs) ceremony hosted by Worcestershire Cricket Board Ltd (WCBL), recognising the many volunteers across the county involved with cricket, was held at Chestnut Marquee, Worcestershire County Cricket Club on Monday.

The day involved several volunteers from numerous clubs in Worcestershire come to New Road and enjoy a fantastic day’s cricket between Worcestershire vs Somerset as well as the lunch at the Marquee and the presentation afterwards.

The event was sponsored by Worcestershire Ambassadors and co-sponsored by ExtraCover Insurance, Malvern Active, Malvern College, Stuart Canvas, Green Self-Storage, Touch Developments, Quality Solicitors Davisons, Tricas Construction Ltd, Airora Tansells, Kirkpatricks, Wilkes Tranter Chartered Accountants, SB Waste Management and Royal Adeel Restaurant.

This year’s Bill Jones Memorial Volunteer of the Year award went to Worcestershire County League Chairman Peter Radburn for his magnificent work for over 50 years, firstly as a player, then as an administrator. Peter was the WCBL Chairman for 7 years and he was the driving force behind the creation of Worcestershire County league where he remains the chairman now in its 20th year. He also won the ‘Lifetime Achiever’ category.

WCBL initiated several new awards and the ‘Pride of Worcestershire Award’ was won by Bill Tansell, who’s contribution to cricket across all spectrums of the game in Worcestershire, either playing, officiating or administering has been valued by the whole of Worcestershire.

Hagley CC’s crowning achievement of winning the National Indoor Champions was celebrated, as well as a special award to the retiring WCBL Indoor League organiser John Iggulden. Chris Green of Droitwich Spa CC won the ‘All Stars Cricket Award’ while North Worcestershire ‘Tigger Award’ established in the memory of Andy Handley who passed away last year was won by Beacon CC’s Alan Green for this commitment to North Worcestershire Cricket.

Tom Hill, WCBL Cricket Development Director said, “OSCAs is the favourite day of my year. It summarises everything we do, the day we celebrate the lives of the people, who are the lifeblood of recreational cricket in Worcestershire.

A huge thank you Worcestershire Ambassadors and all the other partners, their backing has been invaluable.”
