A man has died after a crash on the M5.

Police say the person suffered fatal injuries after a crash between two lorries and a van at around 3.15pm today on the M5 northbound.

The crash happened at the sliproad for M5 junction 5 Droitwich.

No one else is believed to be badly hurt. No other details about the person who died have been released.

Two ambulances and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, ambulance staff found a van that had suffered severe damage after getting caught between the two lorries.

“Sadly, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the van driver and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

“The driver of the front lorry, a man in his 50s was assessed at the scene for knee pain and shock but was discharged.

“The 60-year-old driver in the rear lorry was assessed at the scene and taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital by ambulance with minor cuts and abrasions.”

The road is currently closed northbound between junction 6 and 4a to allow emergency services to operate in the area.

Chemicals have also spilled onto the road and the road will be resurfaced.

Luke O'Donnell captured this video of the crash scene.

Junction 5 northbound will stay closed until tomorrow morning.

Earlier this evening, Chief Superintendent Kevin Purcell tweeted: "After conference with partners M5 Motorway North J5 will be closed until early tomorrow morning. If at all possible please avoid the area as surrounding roads will also be busy."

There were heavy tailbacks after the crash as rush hour traffic backed up.
