A DEVOTED couple are celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary today.

Ena and Trevor Cooper are being joined by their family at Saint Brides Hotel in Saundersfoot, to celebrate ahead of their 60th anniversary on August 23.

Ena and Trevor met as 16-year-olds at the newly formed Claines Youth Club in November 1953, and after a courtship of nearly five years, married in Claines Church on Saturday, August 23, 1958.

Benita, their first daughter, arrived 12 months later followed by a second daughter, Angela, a year later.

Ena and Trevor now have five grandchildren and, so far, four great-grandchildren.

Their first 10 years of married life were spent in and around Worcester followed by a five-year spell in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

They then lived in Keynsham for 21 years before moving back to Worcester to join Benita and Angela, who had both married and already returned home to Worcestershire with their families.

When asked his secret to 60 years of happy marriage, Mr Cooper said: “Ena and I quickly became sweethearts 65 years ago in 1953, and we still are to this day.”
