STUDENTS at Nunnery Wood High School are celebrating their GCSE 'success story' despite 'tougher grade boundaries'.

Some 75 per cent of the 260 students achieved a pass (grade 4) or above in both English and maths, 79 per cent of students achieved five or more passes (grades 4-9).

Nunnery Wood High School headteacher Stephen Powell said: "Once again, Nunnery is delighted to celebrate the hard work of students with a great set of results. A particular source of pride are the exceptional Maths and English grades where 75 per cent of students gained a good pass or higher in both subjects.

"New specifications and tougher grade boundaries haven’t stopped this being another success story for our students. An amazing 30 per cent of grades in all subjects were at the highest level – either a 7,8 or 9 (or A*/A).

"133 passes were at Grade 9 which is only given for the most exceptional of performances."

"We also believe that we have one of the few students in the country to have attained grade 9s in all her subjects. Well done, Cara Shipley.

He added: "Overall, the average point scores are the Nunnery’s highest ever and consequently progress scores will be significantly above national averages. This means that all our students, at all academic levels, did superbly well and we are proud of them all."

80 per cent of all grades were grade 4 or C and above, 30 per cent of all grades were top grades (7-9 or A/A*)

17 per cent of all grades were 9 to 8 including A*, 77 per cent of students achieved a grade 4 or above in maths, 59 per cent a grade 5 or above in maths and 27 per cent a grade 7/8 or 9 in maths.

87 per cent of students achieved a grade 4 or above in English language or literature, 77 per cent grade 5 or above in English language or literature and 33 per cent a grade 7/8 or 9 in English language or literature.
