A HEADTEACHER says he is "delighted" at his students latest GCSE results.

In English, 75 per cent of students at Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College achieved a grade 4 or better and in maths, 69 per cent of students achieved a grade 4 or better.

Some 69 per cent of students achieved five or more 4 to 9 grades.

The school says it continues to outperform national averages with pass rates in biology, chemistry and physics of 94 per cent, 94 per cent and 93 percent respectively.

In biology, 41 per cent of students achieved grades 7 to 9, in chemistry 43 per cent achieved grades 7 to 9, and in physics 35 per cent achieved grades 7 to 9.

Results include a 100 per cent pass rate in photography, 93 per cent in history and 81 per cent in languages.

Headteacher Greg McClarey said: "Our challenge this year to our students was to win their own personal race in terms of getting the best GCSE grades they possibly could and we are delighted that all our students irrespective of their academic ability can now move on with confidence to the next stage of their education.

"We are very proud of our student's achievements this year given the changes to examination content and the new grade structure."

There were some notable individual achievements: Laurie Higgins, Karolina Siekanska and Freya Spain achieved six grade 9s.

Paschal Bauer, Sarah Carpenter, Sarah Cross, Jay Satchwell and Tomasz Szymczak-Fox achieved five grade 9s.
