DROITWICH Spa High School is celebrating an “excellent” result of GCSE results.

In a year where there was so much uncertainty about the new syllabuses and the new grading system, the school is delighted that “our students performed so well”. Nearly 20 per cent of the Year group – 34 students – achieved five or more GCSEs at grade 7 and above.

Headteacher Natalie Waters said: “I am delighted that the efforts of students, their teachers and their support staff have been so emphatically rewarded.

“This is a great achievement, one built upon the combined efforts of very many people.”

She went on to say that, although it is the headline figure which attracts most attention, this really is the story of 213 different members of the school.

“Many of them will have opened envelopes today and found news which will shape the next stage of their lives.

“All of us at the school take great satisfaction from the new opportunities which these students now have before them.”

Among the very top performers this year were 10 students who gained five or more GCSEs at grade 8 or 9.

They are: Katie Bowen (including five at Grade 9) Charlotte Mortimer (including five at grade 9), Kaitlin Fletcher, Sam Rolf, Rosie Read, Jade Doody, Hollie Walton, Jess Harvey, Nick Green and Michael Cheung.
