AN area is becoming “disgusting” due to rubbish and furniture being dumped next to a block of flats.

Residents of Maisonettes, Mayfield Road, off Rainbow Hill, Worcester are angry at the amount of mess being left in communal areas around their homes.

Ellen Payne has lived in a house behind the garages where a large pile of items and bin bags has been left, for around 18 years. Mrs Payne said: “It’s getting to be disgusting around here really. People leave stuff everywhere, it’s getting to be really bad.”

“You feel like saying, ‘why don’t you take your rubbish somewhere else.”

“It’s worse during school times. People come down here and empty their ash trays as well. Also two lads came down here on scooters the other day and they hit my car. There was nothing we could do because they don’t have registrations or anything.”

Another resident who did not wish to be named said: “There is rubbish all over the pavement, there’s beds, there’s bin bags, over flowing bins. Sometimes, to get into your car you have to pick rubbish up out of the streets. It’s an on-going situation.”

The resident claimed: “It is people in the flats who are dumping the rubbish.”

The resident added: “No one seems to be doing anything about it.”

The Worcester City Council told the Worcester News that the mess is on private property and is therefore not their responsibility.

The property belongs to Fortis Living. A spokesperson said: "We have had no reports of fly tipping/rubbish at this particular site since July 30. Now we are aware we will be sending a sub-contractor to remove the rubbish tomorrow (Saturday, August 25).

Irresponsible dumping of rubbish is an ongoing issue in this area and we are doing all we can to identify the causes and discourage it. We would encourage those responsible to dispose of their rubbish appropriately and to think of the impact that their actions are having on their neighbours and neighbourhood."
