DESPITE heavy downpours, Sunshine Festival still managed to put a smile on the faces of thousands of music lovers.

Due to the poor weather during the four-day event, set times for some acts were changed and staff battled problems with water pressure following vandalism.

The festival in Upton-upon-Severn, which is in its ninth year, played host to more than 100 acts including Status Quo, George McCrae, Go West, Aswad, The Wurzels, Katrina, Five Star, Secret Affair and Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols.

One attendee, Rachael Richmond, aged 49, of Worcester, said: “It has been amazing. We just came with friends for the weekend – I didn’t even know Rocky Horror Show would be here.

“All the bands have been brilliant and it has been really well organised.”

Commenting on the weather, Jane Randall, 51, of Malvern, said: “It is what you make it. Status Quo were really good. We have had a really good weekend.”

One of the organisers, Kevin Quaine, said: “It is an amazing event, even if the weather has been changeable. It grows year on year.

“All the staff have been working tirelessly and have done an amazing job to get it going. So many festivals had to cancel acts but we have not had to cancel."

Speaking on the set time issues, Mr Quaine said: “It is about trying to help people where you can. It is a case of communication and make sure they know what to expect.”

Posting on Facebook, a Sunshine Festival spokesman said: “The staff are working tirelessly round the clock to keep everything running. We are having water supply issues though due to continued mindless vandalism.”

The festival, which celebrates its 10th birthday next year, has already announced Peter Andre as one of its acts. A full line-up will be released on Christmas Day at uptonfestival.co.uk.
