AN Australian writer will give a talk about her trilogy of novels set during the turmoil of the English Civil War.

Felicity Goldstein, who writes under the name of AJ Linden, will give a talk at the Commandery in Sidbury, Worcester, on Thursday, September 6 for the Battle of Worcester Society.

The talk in the Great Hall will begin at 7pm and the Commandery Cafe will be open from 6pm.

She has timed her visit to coincide with the annual Drumhead Service which this year is on Saturday, September 1 and will involve a parade from the Guildhall to the Commandery at 5pm with members of the Cromwell Association and Civil War re-enactors.

The Cardinal's Hat is setting up a 17th century bar in the Great Hall of the Commandery and at 6.45pm there will be a parade up to Fort Royal Park where Peter Gaunt, president of the Cromwell Association, will make an address and Canon Michael Brierley will give a short service to commemorate the fact that 3,200 Scottish and English soldiers were killed during the Worcester battle.

The re-enactors will fire a musket volley to mark the beginning and end of one minutes silence.

Felicity is a member of the Battle of Worcester Society and is writing a trilogy of novels about the English Civil War. She will be talking about her recently published first book The Welsh Linnet which covers a family torn apart by the outbreak of the English Civil War. Copies of her book will be on sale which Felicity will be pleased to sign.

Her third book will be based on the 1651 Battle of Worcester.

Adult tickets are £7. For Battle of Worcester Society members tickets are £5. The price for students is £3.

Tickets are available from the Commandery Shop and the Tourist Information Centre at the Guildhall.
