Funding for community projects in Worcestershire from a scheme set up Biffa has now reached the £1million mark.
Established in 1997, the Biffa Award scheme sees grants given to community projects based near landfill sites.
Grants are donated via Biffa Award from Landfill Tax credits as part of the Landfill Communities Fund, to projects which fit into one of three themes: community buildings, recreation, or rebuilding biodiversity.
Among the schemes which have benefited in Worcestershire is the Holt Millennium Green Trust which was awarded a grant of £75,000 for its project to revitalise the outdoor spaces in the village, including the play area.
Rob Jones, of Biffa, the recycling and waste management provider, said: “To be able to give back to projects in areas surrounding our sites is hugely important to us."
