THE trial of two men accused of robbing a pizza delivery man and a taxi driver in Worcester is due to begin today.

Daniel Martin, aged 29, previously of Worcester and Tommy Jauncey, aged 21, of St George's Lane, Worcester, deny both robberies. The jury of six men and six women was sworn in at Worcester Crown Court yesterday (Monday) afternoon but no evidence was heard.

The first robbery is alleged to have been committed against Daniel McLaren on February 19 this year. Both men deny stealing a wallet and contents, keys, a pizza delivery wallet and a Samsung mobile telephone.

The second robbery is alleged to have taken place on February 21 this year against Mohammed Jehengir. Both men deny robbing the taxi driver of cash, a mobile phone and CCTV.

Jauncey alone denies making a threat to kill against Kathleen Biddle, threatening to destroy or damage property in that he is said to have made threats to burn Ms Biddle's house down intending that she would fear the threat would be carried out and criminal damage against a garden fence.

All these alleged offences are said by the prosecution to have taken place on March 10 this year.

The case is being prosecuted by John Brotherton. Martin is represented by Earl Pinnock, Jauncey by Simon Cooper. The case will be heard by judge Nicolas Cartwright.

The trial is due to continue today (Tuesday) when the prosecution is scheduled to open the case.
