AN ANGRY resident says students have been blocking his drive, preventing him from getting his car out.

Reginald Wardle, aged 89 of Emerald Road, St Johns, Worcester says the situation has been going on for around three years, sometimes causing him to miss doctors appointments.

“They have been parking outside my house and I can’t get out. It’s terrible. People are parking far too close and it’s blocking my drive.”

“I’m 89 and I’m sharp as anything, but I have to go to the doctors every so often to have blood tests, and sometimes I can’t get there because I can’t get out.”

Mr Wardle who had a stroke several years ago said: “I am very upset about it, it’s been going on for far too long.”

Sometimes he can get out but it’s “a bit of a struggle, because my drive isn’t very wide and they park far too close.”

Mr Wardle says he thinks the people parking on his road are students, as over the summer he has not had a problem, but since term has resumed, the problem has become much worse.

A spokesman from The University of Worcester said: “The university, working closely with the students’ union, actively encourages all students to park in a sensible and courteous manner. We run a number of campaigns at the start of the new academic year, which includes reminding returning students, who may have moved into the community, to ensure they act in a neighbourly and considerate way.

“The University’s security staff and police community support officers are able to deal with issues such as parking off campus and we would always encourage residents to report any concerns to us as soon as possible so that we can work with them to resolve any problems swiftly. Residents who wish to report a problem can call 01905 855000.”
