A DOG walker is appealing for people to stop leaving broken glass around parks, after her Labrador’s paw was badly injured on a walk.

Chrissy Webb’s Labrador Sasha recently needed surgery and stitches after cutting her paw.

Mrs Webb said: “It wasn’t nice, she had to have a month with no walks.

“I’m always coming across glass, in St John’s mainly, but also by the river.”

Mrs Webb said: “I want to make a point that if it’s teenagers having a drink in the park, at least put your bottles in the bin, why do you have to chuck it on the floor?”

Mrs Webb regularly walks Sasha over a field, next to Howard Road, in St John's, and says shattered fragments of glass can be found in many areas along a new designated path area.

She added: “Some of the shards are so small that you wouldn’t have a chance of seeing them.”

Since Sasha was injured, Mrs Webb now carries a first aid kit with her on dog walks.

She said: “If you are not near the car when a dog cuts itself on glass, you are potentially walking your dog across pavements where the cut could get infected.”

She warned other dog owners to be aware to avoid their dog also suffering.
