This October at The Courtyard, professional aerial artists Nix Barnaville and Sally Gibson present Thrills, Spills and Anti-Inflammatory Pills a sharing of a creative exploration of ageing bodies.

Nix trained as a theatre practitioner specialising in physical theatre before running away with the circus to Australia to train in clown and aerial disciplines. Since returning to the UK she has co-founded Cirque Idyllic and completed an MA in Theatre for Young Audiences.

Sally is the Artistic Director at Artspace Cinderford, with whom she has worked with since 1998 in many guises including photographer and Youth Arts Coordinator.

Using aerial hammocks, live music and projections, Barnaville and Gibson have begun creating a passionate, funny and moving performance which touches on their stories, of a life in the air and their passion to continue performing despite the limitations of an older body.

The duo will perform a work in progress piece that aims to provoke conversations about creatively ageing and gain insight into the audiences’ perspective of watching older performers to inform the development of the piece into a fully produced show next year.

The event will also include an exhibition and a Q&A session with the artists.

Thrills, Spills and Anti-Inflammatory Pills will be in The Courtyard’s Studio Theatre on Wednesday, October 3 at 6pm. To book call the box office on 01432 340555 or visit www.courtyard.org.uk.
