A CHALLENGE to row 60 miles in an hour was exceeded in aid of raising money for a children’s cancer charity.

On Saturday, individuals gathered at MettaBox CrossFit gym, in Droitwich, to take part in a fundraiser and support the charity, CLIC Sargent.

Through holding a raffle with prizes donated from local businesses, sponsorship and donations, the day raised £842.

CrossFit coach, Laura Jeffreys, said: “The event was a real success. It was great to see how excited and determined the children were to achieve this challenge.

“We had a fantastic morning that raised awareness and money for such an important charity.”

The event involved children rowing 60 miles in total within a 60-minute time frame using 10 rowing machines.

The idea was to represent the average 60-mile journey young cancer patients make when receiving treatment.

Laura added: “I am incredibly proud of our children for spending 60 minutes rowing and of the support given by their families.

“They had a great time supporting and encouraging each other right until the end and completed the challenge with seconds to spare.”

The rowing was incorporated by ‘Alfie’s Workout of the Day’ - a 20 round work-out which 20 adults took part in.

The exercise plan was created by Alfie Reed, who successfully battled cancer as a young adult and was supported by CLIC Sargent throughout.

As he battled back from cancer he got into CrossFit, which is a high-intensity fitness programme. Alfie’s goal is to bring the CrossFit community together.
