A PRIMARY school in Malvern is celebrating its latest academic results which show dramatic improvements over previous years.

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Newtown Road, has made significant progress in its Key Stage 2 SATs results, with scores up around 150 per cent from last year.

Head Therese Langford said: “Our progress has only been made possible through the efforts, skill and unwavering commitment made by all our staff over the last couple of years to raise standards across all year groups, supported by a strong and dedicated governing body.

“We are now starting to reap the rewards not only at Key Stage 2, but also across both early years and Key Stage 1 where we are in line with or above the national averages.

“I am committed to giving this school a complete refresh, with recent changes including a brand-new uniform introduced this term.”

“So it really is positive news for the children as we ensure each and every child who comes to St Joseph’s benefits from a rich and broad education. The most important factor is that I want the children to enjoy their learning and feel safe.”

The improvements come after the school’s past two Ofsted inspections, in 2016 and 2014, rated the school as ‘required improvement’.

Maggie Griffiths, co-chair of the school’s governors, said: “The school has been on a long journey to get to where we are today.

“When we appointed Mrs Langford two years ago, we set her a significant challenge to rapidly improve the school’s performance.”
