A NEW vegan café has opened in the city.

Dutty Vegan launched in Worcester’s Market Hall, in the Shambles, on Saturday.

The business serves Caribbean food that has been tweaked to cater for vegans.

The new café is based in the unit previously used as a kitchen by Rods Cafe.

Noel Ferris, who owns Dutty Vegan, said he ran a book shop in the unit before it was a kitchen.

He added: “I’ve come full circle.

“The cafe offers tasty ‘veganised’ versions of dishes such as jerk chicken with rice and peas, barbecue ribs, as well as classic burgers and hot dogs.

“I want to make it easier for people to make positive food choices.

“Veganism is an important and growing force for good in the world.

“Having run a successful t-shirt printing business in the Market Hall, I wanted to expand my love of food.

“It made Dutty Vegan the obvious thing to do.”

Worcester’s Mayor Cllr Jabba Riaz opened the city’s second vegan eatery.

Dutty means dirty in Jamaican Patois.

Vegans try to exclude - as far as possible - all forms of cruelty to animals whether for food, clothes or any other purpose.
