THE teenager who was hit by a bus in Deansway, Worcester, is set to make a full recovery – but it will be a slow process, according to medics.

Fourteen-year-old Lily Alves was hit by a bus, near the Heart of Worcestershire College, at around 2.35pm on Monday, August 17.

Following the crash, First Bus launched an investigation, which they said found the driver did “everything he could” to avoid hitting the teenager.

Sarah East, head of operations at First Worcester, said: “After concluding our investigation into the incident, it was found that our driver did everything they could to avoid colliding with Lily, who crossed the road in front of the bus at the pedestrian crossing on Deansway.”

She added: “We have kept in regular contact and will continue to provide support to the family and we wish Lily a full and speedy recovery.

The company said it had been told the Nunnery Wood High School pupil is expected to make a “full recovery” but it will be a slow process.

Following the crash, First Bus told the Worcester News the teenager stepped into the road, just as the bus was passing through a green traffic light. Speaking at the time, Ms East said: “On approaching the pedestrian crossing with the traffic lights showing green for traffic to proceed, a person stepped into the road, just as the bus was passing through and collided with the bus.”

After the accident, Lily was taken from Deansway by ambulance to Worcester Racecourse where she was airlifted to Bristol Children’s Hospital.

Deansway remained closed between All Saints Road and City Walls Road for several hours following the collision.

Friends and well-wishers posted messages of support on the Worcester News Facebook page after the accident.

Police launched an appeal for information following the crash.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call police on 101, quoting incident number 425 of August 20 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
