WE arrived at Waterside Holiday Park & Spa in Bowleaze Cove bursting with energy on a sunny Saturday morning.

After a drive of about 200 miles we were keen to see the site, which is located just two miles from Weymouth.

After checking in at the reception, we were given the keys to our Safari Lodge, which did raise some eyebrows among my party, who are not all happy campers. But, thankfully we had a pleasant surprise.

The Safari Lodge is actually a rather unique idea, not so much a tent – it consists of three bedrooms, central heating, double glazing, shower room, toilet, dishwasher, wine cooler and even a HD TV and DVD player.

It has all the mod cons but has bohemian style and provides a unique glamping experience.

After parking the car in our designated space, right outside our lodge, we enjoyed a celebratory glass of wine before heading off to the spa.

I was lucky enough to enjoy a 30-minute soothing back massage with moisturising balm, priced at £35.

Wanting to ensure we give the facilities a proper test drive, we then headed to the leisure complex and pools, which has two waterslides.

After a quick go in the Jacuzzi, which sadly was rather cool, we all had a go on the slide as there were no children around and we are young at heart.

There is an outdoor heated pool at the park, open from May 26 to August 31.

We enjoyed a few minutes in both the sauna and steam rooms, before heading back to our accommodation.

There are several eateries at the park, these include The Waterside Venue, The Waterside Diner, The Waterside Sports Bar, Diner and Pizzeria and a takeaway.

We enjoyed our dinner at The Waterside Diner, which has a simple yet delicious menu. The food was of a high-quality and my party was particularly impressed with the bread and oil sharer, costing £4.99, which was very generous in size.

I enjoyed a 10oz, 28-day aged rump steak, with thick cut chips, grilled tomato, mushroom and peas, costing £13.75.

It was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious, but the generous portions defeated me and I was unable to finish my chips.

However, one person in my party ordered the chicken strips, costing £4,75 and sadly they came rather over-cooked.

The resort offers a range of watersports through Jurassic Coast Activities. We had planned to go stand-up paddleboarding but due to a mix-up this was not booked. However staff told us no watersports would be going ahead anyway due to choppy sea conditions.

Instead, we headed into Weymouth in a taxi, costing a fairly reasonable £8.

We visited the Jurassic Skyline tower, tickets cost £5, which provides beautiful views around the Weymouth Bay.

After a lovely walk near the Victorian harbour, we headed to a few pubs and enjoyed a spot of lunch.

Overall, we enjoyed our break and felt the resort is very family-friendly, with lots of entertainment and activities to enjoy.
