THERE has been no update on the outcome of the post-mortem examination on the body of Thomas Jones.

The 18-year-old's body was sadly discovered in the River Severn on September 28 following a major search when the student went missing. A week ago West Mercia Police revealed his death is currently being treated as unexplained, and a post-mortem is ongoing.

A police spokesman confirmed there are no updates, and the coroner would not be able to open an inquest until the postmortem is complete.

Over the last few days there have been further tributes to the Bromsgrove teenager, with former Worcester Warriors flanker Jake Abbott singing the late student's favourite song, Oasis' Wonderwall, in the Coach and Horses pub. Mr Abbott said: "I hope he rests in peace. It's an awful tragedy."

Thomas's parents Ian and Vicki, and sister Ellie, attended West Bromwich Albion's game on Saturday, with striker Dwight Gayle holding aloft the young Albion fan's replica shirt following his equaliser in the Baggies' victory. And at the Warriors match on Sunday a minute's applause was held for him.

Meanwhile the majority of Worcester News readers have rejected calls to rename the Sabrina Bridge in his memory, preferring another lasting tribute is found instead.

A change.org petition to rename the footbridge Jonah's Bridge has been signed by nearly 8,000 people, and a Worcestershire County Council spokesman said it would want to speak to the family before considering the idea.

Annette Dunbar said: "I don't think they should - I think a plaque would be more befitting."

Cheralyn Morrall said: "Plaque memorial would be lovely."

Jo White said: "What happened was tragic and I think there are much nicer ways in which a lasting tribute to Tom can be made."

Emma Staite added: "I'm torn - part of me says, no one else has brought the city together and moved people like he has."
