WORK has started on the cleared site of a pub.

The Coppertops pub, on Oldbury Road, Dines Green, will be the site for a specialist care home.

The site was flattened out last summer.

City-based company Sunflower Properties was given the go-ahead to build the care home by Worcester City Council in December.

The care home will be specially designed for people with severe skeletal problems.

Councillor Lynn Denham said: “This will give the opportunity for people who need specialist care to have that nearer to their home, and I should think it will bring a significant employment benefit to the area as well.”

The pub, which had been serving Dines Green locals since 1969, was demolished in 2016, causing outrage to the community who were left without a local pub. The two other pubs in Dines Green, The Mayflower in Grenville Road and the Drakes Drum in Tudor Way had already been demolished to make way for houses.
