THE inquest hearing into the death of Tom Jones has been set for January 22, next year, at Worcestershire Coroner's Court in Stourport.

The 18-year-old University of Worcester student went missing last month after a night out, prompting a major search, before his body was found in the River Severn.

His death is currently being treated as unexplained, with the inquest initially opened and immediately adjourned on October 3.

Two men were arrested on suspicion of murder prior to the discovery of the body, but were released with no further action to be taken.

Flowers left in memory of Tom were removed from Sabrina Bridge last week, following discussions between his parents and the county and city councils.

Potted flowers will be planted in Cripplegate Park as a lasting memorial and cut flowers are being composted. Non-floral tributes are being stored by the city council.

Friend Harley Hetherington, who set up Facebook group Find Jonah - now Remember Jonah - thanked those who attended a memorial match at Bromsgrove Sporting’s Victoria Ground.

“It was a highly emotional evening, but which allowed myself and many others some closure from the events that have took place and furthermore again reiterated how strong the support has been,” he wrote on Facebook.

He also proposed that the group, which has over 25,000 members, be used to help find any missing people in future.

“I don’t want this huge community spirit to go to waste.

"Please, if anyone ever loses someone whether it’s in Worcester or further afield message me and we will use this amazing community to help bring them home.”

He added that funeral plans have yet to be solidified, while improving lighting and CCTV on Sabrina Bridge is now his focus.
