Hard to believe that the first half term school holiday is upon us. If we’re lucky and the weather stays mild, there are plenty of things to do with the kids to fill their week. Here are a few ideas for you to consider.

Regular readers will know that my old favourites are membership of English Heritage or National Trust. It costs £99 or £120 respectively, which covers annual family membership for two adults and up to 12 (EH) and 10 (NT) children or grandchildren. Currently, both organisations are offering discounts to new members and interest-free monthly payments are available. Membership allows unlimited visits to hundreds of properties, making it terrific value for any family.

However, if you can get out to Holt Heath, I’ve found an absolute gem: Top Barn Farm. This amazing little place has a small petting zoo, cafe, shop, picnic area, toilets and free parking. Entry is free and for a small charge you can take a pumpkin trailer ride or feed the animals. More information at topbarnharvestshop.co.uk

Should the weather take a turn for the worst, you could head out to Droitwich Spa Heritage Centre and Museum where you will discover more about the town’s salt heritage, the role that the famous Droitwich transmitters have played and you can even try your hand at brass rubbing and it’s all for free.

Of course, if you really can’t get out and about, there is plenty to do at home and a good place to start is wimpykidsclub.co.uk where you will find hundreds of activities which are free to download.
