A LORRY driver had a lucky escape when his protective boots saved him from injury after a collision.

The male driver, believed to be in his 50s was trapped by his feet under the pedals of his lorry after it collided with another lorry in Hereford.

He was not released until an ambulance crew were able to ease his feet out of his steel toe capped boots.

The strength of the boots meant he suffered no injuries from the collision which happened on Bage Road, Dorston just before 1.45pm.

A West Midlands ambulance spokesman said: "He could have been seriously injured if it wasn't for the protective footwear he was wearing."
