UPDATE:

The 18 year old has reportedly come down from the roof of the building and police officers have re-opened the street.

ORIGINAL STORY:

POLICE have cordoned off a street as a man is sat on the roof of a building dangling his legs off the edge.

The teenager is sat above William Hill currently. Police have cordoned off a large part of the street between Foregate Street and St Swithins Street.

Five police cars, two ambulances, one police van and two fire engines are at the scene.

The teenager has been shouting and a police negotiator is trying to encourage him to come down.

He is dressed in a black tracksuit with his hood up. He stood up briefly and changed position.

A member of the public said: "Many people are stood watching the boy and police are stood below trying to talk him down"

"I arrived at the scene at 8:30am and the police were already there but wouldn't have been for long because as soon as I got there they had only just started crossing off the scene to stop people walking through.

The young boy tried to climb higher onto the building and smoked a cigarette, then went back to his original position of hanging his legs over the edge of the building."
