AN ambassador will take on the London Marathon to raise money for a local children's charity.

Chris Orr, the Chair of Worcestershire Advance and a member of the Worcestershire Ambassadors, is taking on the London Marathon on Sunday, April 28, 2019 on behalf of Wooden Spoon, the rugby children’s charity.

Wooden Spoon was set up in 1983 to positively transform the lives of children and young people with a disability or facing disadvantage across the UK and Ireland. Locally, Wooden Spoon have provided more than £300,000 of funding to projects in Worcestershire, including towards an outdoor classroom at Riverside School this year and previously a Play Area at New Hope Worcestershire. The first £2,000 raised by Chris will go to the national Wooden Spoon charity, but every penny over this £2,000 will be retained within the County for the benefit of disadvantaged children.

Mr Orr explained, “I am thrilled to have the chance to support Wooden Spoon and run the London Marathon. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. I used to be a keen runner, but I haven’t done much over the last year and so 26.2 miles is a daunting challenge.

I’m hoping that my pain and suffering will inspire people to donate, as I want to raise as much as possible over £2,000 to support children in Worcestershire. I’m not expecting to finish the marathon in a great time, but hopefully I can avoid coming last place and earning the wooden spoon on behalf of Wooden Spoon”
