THE music of rock ‘n’ roll balladeer Billy Fury will be celebrated with a show at Worcester’s Huntingdon Hall, this month.

Play It Cool will mark the 60th anniversary since a very nervous young lad called Ronald Wycherley took to the stage to sing, and then, presumably, had the afterthought to change his name.

A spokesman said: “Pat Young from Evesham, a one hundred per cent Billy Fury fanatic, and John Banner from Malvern, have put this show together to commemorate the it is sixty years since the Billy Fury was legend was born.”

“Called Play It Cool after one of the films Billy starred in, the show features leading Billy Fury tribute artist Rob Dee portraying his idol, whilst two of the other artists who appeared in the film, Helen Shapiro and Bobby Vee, will be portrayed by Tanya Taylor and Steve Conway.”

The spokesman added: “Rob Dee has been performing his tribute to the UK’s top rock ‘n’ roll ballad singer Billy Fury for nearly twenty years.

“He has appeared all over the UK and as far as away as New Zealand at theatres, holiday

sites, rock ‘n’ roll clubs and festivals.”

Rob said: “I always enjoy doing my tribute to Billy, who still has thousands of devoted fans all over the country and beyond, and it is a real pleasure to perform his songs and bring back some wonderful memories.”

Tanya Taylor, who will be performing as Helen Shapiro, is an established award-winning vocalist, with twenty years of experience, which includes a tribute to Karen Carpenter, as well as an award-winning tribute to Celine Dion, with vocals to match the diva in question.

The spokesman said: “Tanya has a way of portraying the singer of the song, sounding just like them, and her unique vocals always capture the crowd’s attention.”

The show takes place on Saturday, November 24, at 7.30pm. Tickets on 01905 611427 or at worcesterlive.co.uk
